Croup


Croup is mainly caused by viral infections of the nose and airways and occurs mostly during the fall and winter seasons. It usually affects children three months to five years of age.
It is represented by sudden onset of a barking cough, hoarseness, and stridor preceded by a cold. It can be an emergency condition. It is more common in boys than girls between 6 and 36 months of age.
It is worse at night, and when the child is angry.
Croup can be controlled by keeping the child calm, nebulization and medications.
